Welcome to ProBarn Management
This book will open your eyes to the world of horse boarding and all that it encompasses. One of the most often asked questions I get from people who want to start a boarding business is, "Where do I start?" Great question! This book is a guide to building and maintaining a successful boarding business. This book will include a sample business plan, boarding contract and barn rules along with many task lists to organize each part of your operation. I discuss the many scenarios that include other equine professionals that will work at your barn, including veterinarians, farriers, horse trainers and more. I also talk about your barn, the weather and how it affects every part of your job including buying hay, shavings, employees and even paying your business mortgage. They are all connected. This book will go into detail about every part of the horse boarding business. This book will start at the very beginning of business ownership and walk you through each step and it will benefit anyone whether they are building brand new or buying an existing boarding operation no matter the size. After all, the issues that happen at a large facility can easily happen at a smaller stable. I want you to be prepared and I want you to be successful. You won't find a more detailed or current book about horse boarding anywhere.
Who I am...
With many years of horse boarding experience, as a boarder, equine professional and later a barn owner, I was ultimately fortunate enough to follow my dreams of building Vinland Stables in Neenah, Wisconsin. In recent years, I've discovered a lack of mentorship for new equine business owners, and a lack of positive motivation for existing equine business managers who are struggling. ProBarn Management was born to fill that need. As a business owner, author, blogger, speaker and consultant, my goal is to help you troubleshoot your challenges and build a stronger, more stable and rewarding career in the equine industry.
What I'm about...
If you are just beginning your journey in the horse business or are already well-established, ProBarn Management has a lot to offer. This website and blog are dedicated to helping, encouraging and inspiring fellow equine professionals. Equine barn management is so much more than cleaning stalls and feeding horses. In fact, that is the easy part. It doesn’t matter if your barn is small or large, commercial or private, the core foundation for running a healthy horse business is the same in every case. Helping you building a positive foundation based on trust and respect between you and your clients is what ProBarn Management is all about.
How I can help....
Have you wondered why one barn has a waiting list while another struggles to fill their stalls? As a barn manager, do you experience high turnover among clients, and is drama in the barn ruining the atmosphere? These are just a few of the many issues barn managers face. Learning to resolve issues in a positive way is something that many people struggle with. Whether you are launching a new equine business, looking for solutions to current issues or exploring the best expansion options, I'd like to help you navigate the challenges that are potentially damaging your business and help you create and operate the barn of your dreams.
"Building a solid relationship between equine professionals and their clients is
what ProBarn Management is all about."
