The Sacrifices You Will Make In Your Horse Business

I never truly realized all the sacrifices that came with starting and running your own business. From the moment you decide to start the journey of becoming your own boss your life starts to change. For many years I worked for the school system and it was a very nice job.  I started at eight in the morning and was done at three o’clock every day and I always had the weekends off.  The pay was not the greatest but I had great benefits and summers off.  It was a fantastic job for raising my two little girls and I could be home all summer with them.

After we started our horse boarding business I started working seven days a week and finding time to spend with my kids became very difficult at first.  The job took all my time trying to get it to a place where it was running smoothly.  During those early years I missed many family functions or had to leave early to get home to do evening chores.  My husband and I were always a little disappointed but we had to look at the big picture and we accepted the responsibility of the business and we would pray that the days would get easier as time went on.

I have never regretted the sacrifices that having our business has put upon us as a family.  It has taught me so much more about ambition and drive and determination and I think it has taught my children what hard work is really all about.  In today’s world many people don’t want to sacrifice for what they would like to have.  They want it now and without any discomfort.  I believe the biggest success comes from within and the person you become when you have made it after all the hard work and sacrifice.  The best part is when you realize that it never would have been possible without God walking by your side.

Every day I see God in every part of our farm and the success we have is only possible because of him.  He was by our side all the way and he saw the bigger picture of what he wanted us to become from our journey.   My prayer for you is that as you start your journey of being an equine professional that you keep the Lord by your side through all your business decisions.  You will have sacrifices to make and they might be many at first but remember that with God by your side you can do anything through him. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you hope and a future.”

Today's post is from my daily devotional, "Caring for horses with a servant's heart."   This book will uplift you every day and give you courage to run your horse business even on those very difficult days.

I wish you many blessings in your horse business, Sheri Grunska
